Matthew 23:22 · World English Bible

Matthew 23:22 Meaning He Who Swears by Heaven

He who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God, and by him who sits on it.

What does Matthew 23:22 mean?

Heaven is not a distance overhead but the higher mind seated at the crown, the still awareness that rules the whole man from above the eyes. To bind a word to heaven is to root it in that ruling consciousness rather than in the noise of the lower nature, because nothing lower can hold an oath.

Heaven is not a distance overhead but the higher mind seated at the crown, the still awareness that rules the whole man from above the eyes. To bind a word to heaven is to root it in that ruling consciousness rather than in the noise of the lower nature, because nothing lower can hold an oath. The throne is the seat of that awareness inside the skull, and what sits upon it is the pure witness that never moves.

Every vow a person makes reaches back to this inner seat whether he knows it or not. When speech is sworn by the highest, it is anchored in the part of a person that watches without changing, and that is the only ground that keeps a promise true.

Heaven: the higher mind at the crown, the raised field of awareness above the ordinary thinking of the day Throne: the seat of pure consciousness within the head, the fixed center from which the whole person is governed

Live Matthew 23:22 today

  1. Before you reply to a message that stirred something up, wait until you can feel the quiet part of yourself behind the reaction, then write from there. It takes about a minute.
  2. When you promise someone something today, even something small like calling back tonight, pause for a second before you say it and ask whether the steady part of you means it. Say it only if it does.
  3. In the middle of an argument or a hard call, find your feet on the floor and your breath going in and out. There is something in you watching all of this that is not upset, and it is still there.

When you speak today, which part of you is doing the talking?
