Matthew 24:1 Meaning Jesus Went Out From the Temple

Jesus went out from the temple, and was going on his way. His disciples came to him to show him the buildings of the temple.

What does Matthew 24:1 mean?

Awareness withdrawing from the temple is the movement of consciousness away from the outer religion of stone and toward the inner work, for the temple is the human brain and its buildings are the structures the mind has raised around belief. The faculties that meditate still point back at the architecture, impressed by the outer masonry, while the higher awareness is already leaving it behind.

The greater works are found by turning within, not by admiring the walls.

To depart from the temple is to stop worshiping the building and to seek the living center inside the head. The buildings shown are all the constructions of external faith, and the departure is consciousness moving past them into the region where the true sanctuary sits.

  2. When someone starts talking about the system, the setup, the plan for how to do the thing, gently ask them how it is actually going. The structure is easy to discuss. The living part is the harder question.
  3. In a meeting about process, or while reorganizing a folder for the third time, pause and ask what the actual work was. Then go do five minutes of the work instead of the scaffolding around it.

What have I been admiring the outside of, instead of walking into?

The finger pointing at the moon is not the moon. Admire the finger long enough and you will miss the whole sky.

The way that can be named is not the real way. Every description is scaffolding around something the description cannot hold, useful only if you eventually walk past it.

The sages said the self is found by turning the senses inward, not by searching the world outside. What you are looking for was never in the architecture.
