Matthew 24:3 Meaning As He Sat on the Mount

As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? What is the sign of your coming, and of the end of the age?”

What does Matthew 24:3 mean?

The mount of Olives is your own head, the site where the whole coming happens, and it will one day split as an inner event, not a scene in the sky. The disciples asking privately about the sign are the parts of a mind expecting the end to show up on the outside, some public signal announcing Christ.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The mount of Olives is your own head, the site where the whole coming happens, and it will one day split as an inner event, not a scene in the sky. The disciples asking privately about the sign are the parts of a mind expecting the end to show up on the outside, some public signal announcing Christ. There is no such outer sign. Christ is your own imagination, and it awakens within you individually.

What must collapse first are the buildings, the mental structures of belief built up from other people's ideas, every borrowed notion of who Christ is. When the I within awakens, those structures fall, and the awakening flashes like lightning from within rather than arriving from without. The end of the world is not the planet's ending. It is the moment a person wakes inside his own skull and knows the drama was always about himself.

Esoteric

The mount of Olives is the olive-shaped body at the base of the brain, the hypoglossal region where the nerve of speech and the deep centers meet, and to sit there is to rest awareness at that inner seat. The ones who come privately are the meditators, and their question about the end of the world is not about a globe burning but about the ending of the outer, literal mind so the inner reign can begin.

The coming and the end asked after here happen inside the skull, at that olive in the brain where the higher state dawns. The end of the world is the close of the age of literal seeing within a person, the moment the outward-facing mind gives way. The whole exchange takes place at an anatomical point in the head, asked in the privacy of the inner stillness.

Live Matthew 24:3 today

  1. Take one belief you hold because someone told you so, about God, about yourself, about what you are capable of, and set it down for an hour. See what is still standing when you stop holding it up.
  2. Next time a friend tells you what some teacher or podcast said is true, listen all the way through, then ask yourself honestly whether you have ever tested it in your own life. Say so if you have not.
  3. When you are rushed and looking around for something to tell you what to do, a notification, a sign, someone's approval, put the phone face down for sixty seconds. Whatever you need is happening inside your own head, not on the screen.

Which of my beliefs are mine, and which did I borrow and never check?

The gate has no gate. Everyone stands outside waiting for it to open, and the opening turns out to be a shift behind the eyes, not a door swinging in front of them.

The way is not reached by piling up more learning. Things fall away rather than add up, and when enough has dropped off, the thing you were studying is simply there.

Buddhism

Awakening is not a date on a calendar or a light in the sky. The world the sages speak of ending is the world a person assembled from ideas, and it ends in one person at a time.
