Matthew 25:13 Meaning Watch Therefore

Watch therefore, for you don’t know the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

What does Matthew 25:13 mean?

The mind wants to know when. It plans for a day it can circle on a calendar, some future arrival it can prepare to meet on its own terms.

Ego v. Being

The mind wants to know when. It plans for a day it can circle on a calendar, some future arrival it can prepare to meet on its own terms. But what comes cannot be scheduled, because it comes only in the moment that is here. The hour is always this one.

To watch is not to strain toward tomorrow but to stay awake in the single instant a person has. When attention rests fully in what is present, the deeper self that the mind keeps postponing is already arriving, quietly, in the one place it can be met. That awakened presence within you, the Son of man, keeps no appointment. Whoever is simply here now has already met it.

Live Matthew 25:13 today

  1. Instead of planning the version of yourself that starts Monday, be that person for the next five minutes. Calmer, kinder, slower. It only exists now anyway.
  2. When someone asks something of you today, answer from where you actually are rather than from who you mean to be later. Honest and present beats scheduled.
  3. In the middle of a stressful stretch, pause before the next task and feel one full breath. Nothing arrives in the future you are rushing toward.

What am I postponing that can only happen now?

Asked about the great matter, a teacher said: have you eaten? Then wash your bowl. The hour you are waiting for is the one with the bowl in it.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

He wrote that no one owns anything but this present instant, and that a person can step into clarity right now rather than at some arranged time.

Tao Te Ching 63

The sage deals with what is in front of them while it is still small and near. Nothing is postponed to a better moment.
