Matthew 25:25 Meaning I Was Afraid

I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the earth. Behold, you have what is yours.’

What does Matthew 25:25 mean?

Fear buries what it is given, and calls the burial safekeeping. The mind that believes love is dangerous hides its own gift in the ground, mistaking paralysis for prudence and returning empty because it never dared to risk.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Fear buries what it is given, and calls the burial safekeeping. The mind that believes love is dangerous hides its own gift in the ground, mistaking paralysis for prudence and returning empty because it never dared to risk. Nothing was lost through wrongdoing here; everything was lost through the refusal to live what was received, out of a fear that was never real.

To say, here is what is yours, untouched, is to imagine that withholding is innocence, that to have done nothing is to have done no harm. But love does not ask to be preserved intact; it asks to be extended, and the only failure is to bury out of fear what was meant to be given away.

Talent: the gift love entrusts to the mind, meant to be extended and not preserved untouched. Earth: the fear-bound refusal where the gift is buried, the low ground the mind chooses over risk.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

The belief that scares a person is the one they never test, and it ends up deciding what they never attempt.

A private conclusion about someone else's character operates exactly like a fact, because certainty never audits where it came from. It sets the state, the state produces fear, and fear permits one move, protecting what is already in hand. Two other men served the same master and traded, so the master was the constant and the difference sat entirely in what each had gathered as evidence about him.

Returning the identical coin reads as honesty and is the ledger of a life in which nothing was risked. The price of a belief a man declines to test is not the failure he imagined; it is every year of increase he never went after, and he never learns the size of it.

Live Matthew 25:25 today

  1. Name the one thing you have been sitting on out of fear, the message, the application, the apology, and take the first small step on it today. Not all of it, just the part that costs you a little.
  2. Offer someone the thing you are good at without being asked for it and without hedging. Help, a plain compliment, a real opinion in a meeting.
  3. When the fear of looking foolish shows up this afternoon, go ahead anyway in the smallest available way. Ask the question in the meeting, send the draft before it is perfect.

What are you calling safekeeping that is really just hiding?

The cup is useful because it is willing to be emptied. What is kept full and untouched serves nobody.

Stoicism · Seneca

The life spent in preparation and self-protection is not saved, only unspent. To avoid all risk is to have arranged a very careful nothing.

Clinging is not safety. What you grip to keep from losing is exactly the thing you never get to use.
