CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The foolish mind mistakes the outward form of devotion for its substance. It carries the lamp, the appearance of seeking, but leaves behind the oil, the inner willingness that alone gives the seeking any life. This is the ego's whole strategy, to perform readiness while withholding the one thing that would make it real, so that the mind can seem to walk toward love while quietly staying where it is.

A form without content is the emptiest of possessions, for it deceives its owner most of all. To hold the lamp and neglect the oil is to want the reward of awakening without the small daily consent that awakening asks.

Lamps: the outward show of seeking, the form of devotion carried for others to see. Oil: the inner willingness that gives seeking its life, the quiet consent that must be gathered within.

The lamp is the pineal gland, the vessel made to hold the inner light, and it is dark without fuel. The oil is the chrism, the fine fluid secreted by the claustrum high in the brain and drawn up the spine in stillness, the retained energy that feeds the light-receptor. The foolish carry the vessel but keep no oil, meaning they hold the outward form of the practice yet never raise the inner substance that makes it burn.

Separating from thought in meditation is what frees that energy to rise unhindered; without it the sacred fluid is spent below and the lamp, though present, has nothing to give it flame.

Live Matthew 25:3 today

  1. Look honestly at one habit you keep up mostly for the look of it, the saved app, the half-read book, the streak. Either do the actual small version today or let it go without pretending.
  2. Instead of telling someone you will pray for them or that you are there for them, do the one concrete thing: the text, the ride, the ten minutes on the phone tonight.
  3. When you want to be seen as the person who is on top of it, let the appearance go and do the quiet unimpressive part instead. Nobody will applaud, which is how you know it was real.

What are you carrying the shape of without the substance?
