Matthew 27:33 Meaning When They Came to a Place Called

When they came to a place called “Golgotha”, that is to say, “The place of a skull,”

What does Matthew 27:33 mean?

Golgotha is the human skull, and the whole drama of crucifixion and rising is staged there, inside a person's own head. Not a hill outside a city, but the place of a skull each one carries.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Golgotha is the human skull, and the whole drama of crucifixion and rising is staged there, inside a person's own head. Not a hill outside a city, but the place of a skull each one carries. This is where God has died into human form, forgetting himself, laid as if buried in the bone. The scene is not history reaching its grim moment but the exact spot within where the sleeping power lies waiting to wake.

Because the tomb is the skull, the resurrection is inward too. God individualized in a person stirs and remembers what he is, and the awakening happens in the one place the story has been pointing to all along. Every location in scripture is a state within the reader, and this one names the seat of the whole mystery. What looks like an execution ground is the chamber where a person is destined to come awake as the very power that had fallen asleep inside him.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The whole drama arrives at last inside the head, for Golgotha is the skull and no hill outside a city gate. The death being staged here is not a body pinned to wood but the senses stilled through deep meditation, the outer clamor of sight and sound and appetite laid down so the inner life can rise. That the writers stop to translate the name, and translate it to bone, points the reader inward: the sacrifice happens in the one place a person carries everywhere.

The quieting of the 5 senses within the skull is the crucifixion, and it is happening in a living person who sits still long enough for the noise to die.

Golgotha: the skull, the bony chamber where the inner death and awakening are staged Place of a skull: the crucifixion set inside the mind, not on any hill of history

  1. Instead of searching one more podcast or thread for the answer, sit for three minutes with the question and nothing else. Let the place you are already sitting be the place.
  2. When a conversation turns to where someone should go to find themselves, keep it closer to home. Ask what is already stirring in them right where they are.
  3. On the commute, when the mind starts planning the escape that will finally fix things, bring it back to the body in the seat. The whole thing is happening here, not at the destination.

What have I been looking for out there that has been asleep in me the whole time?
