Matthew 27:42 · World English Bible

Matthew 27:42 Meaning He Saved Others

He saved others, but he can’t save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him come down from the cross now, and we will believe in him.

What does Matthew 27:42 mean?

Fear mistakes the refusal to defend the body for an inability to save it, and mocks the very peace it cannot understand. To the ego, salvation means rescue from suffering by force, so a mind that will not use power to spare itself looks defeated.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Fear mistakes the refusal to defend the body for an inability to save it, and mocks the very peace it cannot understand. To the ego, salvation means rescue from suffering by force, so a mind that will not use power to spare itself looks defeated. But strength was never the escape from the cross; it was the demonstration that the cross has no power to touch what one truly is.

The crowd promises belief on the condition of a spectacle, asking for proof in the one currency fear trusts. What it cannot see is that coming down would prove nothing except that the body matters, while remaining shows that it does not. Salvation was never about saving the body but about knowing the mind was never in danger.

Cross: the body offered up to attack, the seeming instrument of suffering that has no power over the mind. King of Israel: the true Self the crowd demands prove itself on fear's terms, the identity they will accept only if it bows to the body's rules.

  1. When something hurts today, a headache, bad sleep, bad news, sit with it for one minute without reaching for the phone to escape it. See what in you is watching.
  2. Let someone see you not having it together. You do not have to perform strength to be strong in front of them.
  3. When you are tempted to prove you are fine, in a meeting or a text, stop at the truth. Not everything needs a demonstration.

What in you has never actually been in danger?
