The mind comes looking for its treasure among endings and is told, kindly, that it is searching the wrong place. What it loves was never contained by the thing that seemed to hold it, and to be shown the empty spot is a mercy, for it breaks the habit of grieving over a shape that life has already left.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
The mind comes looking for its treasure among endings and is told, kindly, that it is searching the wrong place. What it loves was never contained by the thing that seemed to hold it, and to be shown the empty spot is a mercy, for it breaks the habit of grieving over a shape that life has already left. Emptiness here is not loss but evidence.
The invitation is to look and see for oneself, to let the eyes rest on the absence until the absence teaches. A mind that accepts this looking stops keeping vigil over what is gone and turns toward the truth that whatever it truly loves cannot be buried.
The place where the Lord lay: the emptied belief in death, the spot the mind guarded as final until it saw that nothing final was ever there.

Where have you been keeping watch over something that life already left?
The usefulness of a cup is the hollow inside it, and the usefulness of a room is the space no wall fills. Emptiness is not the absence of the thing, it is where the thing actually works.
A student is told to stop chasing the finger and look at the moon. What you love was never the pointing thing, and clinging to the pointer keeps you from the light.
The teaching on impermanence says that grief holds on to a form that has already moved on. Seeing the form gone clearly is not despair, it is the beginning of freedom.
