Matthew 8:15 Meaning He Touched Her Hand

He touched her hand, and the fever left her. She got up and served him.

What does Matthew 8:15 mean?

A fever is a picture of a person's life-energy burning itself up, and the touch that releases it is healing happening right at the bedside. The mother-in-law lies flattened under feeling that has turned on itself and cannot be put to any good use.

Psychoanalysis

A fever is a picture of a person's life-energy burning itself up, and the touch that releases it is healing happening right at the bedside. The mother-in-law lies flattened under feeling that has turned on itself and cannot be put to any good use.

The healer arrives and turns that burning energy from a wild, untamed heat into something calm and ready for use, the way it feels when a night fever finally breaks and the body comes back to itself. Her rising and serving is not mere thanks. It is a person made whole: her life-energy now flows outward as clear, purposeful living instead of smoldering uselessly inside.

Live Matthew 8:15 today

  1. If you have been lying low with something that keeps burning in you, worry, anger, a grudge rehearsed for days, get up and do one small physical thing with your hands: dishes, laundry, a walk around the block. Let the heat go somewhere useful instead of circling.
  2. Someone near you is flattened today, sick or sad or just done. Go sit by them and put a hand on their shoulder before you offer any advice. Presence at the bedside is the whole medicine.
  3. When the pressure spikes at work and you feel yourself running hot, name it quietly to yourself, then pick the next concrete task and do only that. The fever breaks when the energy finally has a job.

What have I been burning up inside me that could be put to work for someone instead?

Bhagavad Gita 3

Energy that has nowhere to go turns inward and sours. The same force, pointed at honest work done for others, becomes clean and steady instead of feverish.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

He woke himself each morning with the thought that the human being is made for action, not for lying under the covers warm with its own complaints. Health shows up as usefulness.

Taoism · Zhuangzi

Water that stagnates breeds sickness, water that moves stays clear. A life does the same: blocked, it burns, flowing, it serves.
