CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Sight is not given from outside. What the mind is willing to believe becomes the world it then sees, so the healing of vision is really the mind consenting to look with love instead of fear. Love touches the place where seeing begins and asks only for the mind's agreement, for it cannot show wholeness to eyes still committed to seeing lack.

This is why the outcome rests on trust. The world answers each mind according to the teacher it has chosen, and the mind that lets love decide what it will see finds that the darkness it feared was only its own refusal to open the eyes that were always able to see.

Eyes: the mind's power of perception, the inner place where the choice between fear's world and love's begins

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

Faith here is not agreeing with an idea but an unforced gift of the soul, the lining-up of the everyday self with the deep, true center that no willpower can manufacture.

Blindness, read as a symbol, is the everyday self trapped in blame, meeting every face through the distorting film of the faults it has refused to own. The two men crying out in the street is the first step of becoming whole. Christ's finger on a closed eyelid does outwardly what happens within: the meeting point between the formed everyday self and the healing image of God. Yet the wholeness that flows through that touch needs an answering readiness, a mind that has agreed rather than forced.

CYBERNETICS

Cybernetics

Sight was measured out to match what the men already held to be possible. The touch met their belief and answered it in kind, no larger and no smaller. What a person accepts as within reach sets the size of what arrives.

The mind keeps working this way far past that one healing. A man draws to himself, again and again, the result his inner picture will allow, and no more. When the picture shrinks, the outcome shrinks with it. When a person raises what he expects and holds the raised expectation steady, the door opens wider than before. The measure was never arbitrary. It was cut to fit the faith the men brought with them.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

Faith works as an amount, and the amount sets the delivery. A person acts at the level of their certainty, gets a result cut to that level, then holds the result up as proof of what they were right to expect, and the loop confirms itself without ever being tested from outside.

What someone is sure of decides how much they will risk, how hard they press, and how long they stay when nothing has moved yet, which is why the amount reaches the body long before it reaches the world. Set it low and a life stays inside it, and the outcomes that were available never announce themselves as things a belief priced out.

Live Matthew 9:29 today

  1. Pick one situation you have already decided is hopeless, a stalled project, a habit, a person who will never change. Spend five minutes assuming the kinder reading might be true, and see what you spot that you could not spot before.
  2. Before you open the next message from someone who gets under your skin, decide in advance to read it in the most generous voice it could honestly carry. The words will not change. What you see in them will.
  3. When a meeting or a tense call starts and your chest tightens, name quietly what you are expecting to happen. Then choose one other outcome that is equally possible, and walk in holding that one instead.

What have I been refusing to see, simply because I decided ahead of time that it was not there?

Dhammapada 1

All that we are arises from what we have thought. The mind shapes the world it then walks through, so a life built on suspicion looks nothing like the same life built on trust.

Stoicism · Epictetus

We are disturbed not by events but by our judgments about them. Change what you are willing to believe about a thing and the thing itself quietly changes shape.

Zen

A student asked how to see clearly and the teacher said the gate has been open the whole time. Seeing is not something added to you; it is what remains when you stop insisting on the dark.
