The body itself finds a voice and rebukes the mind that has been beating it. The ass is the animal nature, the patient carrier of flesh that sees what the reasoning self, blind to the higher presence in its path, cannot.

ESOTERIC
The body itself finds a voice and rebukes the mind that has been beating it. The ass is the animal nature, the patient carrier of flesh that sees what the reasoning self, blind to the higher presence in its path, cannot. Balaam is that mind, driving the body forward while striking it for balking at a danger it refuses to perceive.
The number 3 is the completed measure, the point at which the pattern is full and the flesh will endure no more. Struck to that limit, the body's own wisdom breaks into speech and turns the rider back toward what he could not see.
The ass: the animal body, the patient carrier of the flesh that perceives the higher presence the reasoning mind is blind to 3 times: the number 3, the completed measure, the point at which the flesh has borne its full portion

What has been telling me the same thing three times now?
The body should be given only what it needs for health and then put back in service of the mind, but a body driven past its strength stops serving at all. Care of it is not indulgence, it is upkeep of the thing you travel in.
The body is the vehicle, not the enemy. Treating it harshly in the name of higher aims is its own kind of blindness, and the middle path keeps the vehicle able to travel.
A bell is struck and then it speaks. Pain repeated often enough stops being background and becomes a voice you have to answer.
