Numbers 31:9 Meaning The Children of Israel Took the Women

The children of Israel took the women of Midian captive with their little ones; and all their livestock, all their flocks, and all their goods, they took as plunder.

What does Numbers 31:9 mean?

Israel is the trinity within, Isis the spirit, Ra the mind, El the god in the human, and Midian is strife, the contention and fear that trouble a person from below. The captives taken are sorted by polarity in the verses that follow: the little ones and the men are new thoughts of the lower mind marked to be killed, while the women untouched by any man are the pure spirit of God to be kept.

The cattle and flocks and goods are the yield of that lower ground, but the slaughter surrounding this scene is the point. The mind of strife is purged so the untouched spirit can be freed, not gathered up as comfortable loot.

Midian: strife, the fear and contention that trouble a person from the lower nature Women of Midian: the spirit produced within, later split into the pure part kept and the polluted part destroyed Little ones: new thoughts born of the lower mind, marked to be killed Cattle and flocks and goods: the produce of the lower ground, the raw energies of the mind of strife

  2. After an argument with someone you live with, say the one clean thing that needs saying and then let the rest go unsaid. Do not carry the extra material forward into the week.
  3. When a group chat flares up and you have the perfect cutting line ready, do not send it. Clearing the air and winning the exchange are different jobs.

What am I still keeping from an old conflict, just in case?

Ill will is not managed by being hidden, it is ended by being seen clearly and dropped. What you keep as a souvenir of a fight will restart it later.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Anger carries its own reasons, and all of them sound fair while you are holding it. Keeping the grievance is keeping the trouble.

Tao Te Ching

Victory is nothing to celebrate, and the one who gloats over it has already lost something. Let the conflict end completely instead of collecting its remains.
