Proverbs 1:2 · World English Bible
to know wisdom and instruction; to discern the words of understanding;
Two kinds of seeing are being set side by side. There is the knowing that belongs to love, which needs no proof because it rests in what is true, and there is the slow instruction the mind still requires while it learns to lay down the ego's way of looking.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
Two kinds of seeing are being set side by side. There is the knowing that belongs to love, which needs no proof because it rests in what is true, and there is the slow instruction the mind still requires while it learns to lay down the ego's way of looking. To perceive the words of understanding is to let a gentler teacher correct the sight, so that what once seemed threatening is looked upon again and seen as harmless.
The purpose of every honest lesson is this single shift, a mind trading the frightened glance of separation for the clear and quiet gaze that love makes possible.

ESOTERIC
To know wisdom is to open the higher knowing seated in the head, above the reasoning that merely shuffles what the senses bring in. There is a faculty in a person that reads meaning directly, and the whole aim named here is its waking: not the piling up of facts, but the eye of understanding coming online behind the brow.
To perceive the words of understanding is to catch the inner sense hidden under the outer letter, the way meaning stands behind speech. This is the finer perception rising, the part that grasps what a thing truly is while the outer mind still spells out its surface.
Christian Psychology lens
Where are you still seeing a threat that would turn ordinary if you looked at it again?
Two people look at the same hill. One sees a climb to be won, the other sees a hill. Practice is the slow correction of the eye, not of the hill.
Things themselves do not disturb us, our judgments about them do. Change the judgment and the threat quietly stops being a threat.
The sage does not add to what is seen. Learning here is a clearing away, until things appear as plainly as they always were.
