Proverbs 1:1 Meaning The Proverbs of Solomon

The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:

What does Proverbs 1:1 mean?

Solomon is peace, the settled inner ruler, and he stands as the offspring of David, the part of the personality that lives surrounded by the war between spirit and flesh. Peace is born out of that inner conflict, the son of the divided self, and it reigns over Israel, the body where Isis the spirit, Ra the mind, and El the god within are joined in one name.

Esoteric

Solomon is peace, the settled inner ruler, and he stands as the offspring of David, the part of the personality that lives surrounded by the war between spirit and flesh. Peace is born out of that inner conflict, the son of the divided self, and it reigns over Israel, the body where Isis the spirit, Ra the mind, and El the god within are joined in one name. The whole line is a map of a person: struggle fathers stillness, and stillness governs the ground where spirit, mind, and divinity meet.

Teaching passes like a seed into that soil, watered by the mere hearing of truth even before it is understood. In plain terms, the peaceful self that rules the body is grown from earlier struggle, and its sayings are seeds planted in whoever listens.

Solomon: peace, the settled inner ruler born of struggle David: the part of the personality surrounded by the inner war of spirit and flesh Israel: the body as Isis the spirit, Ra the mind, and El the god within, joined in one Son: the offspring of the mind, what the inner self brings forth

Live Proverbs 1:1 today

  1. When your mind is pulling two ways this morning, wanting to answer the message and wanting to leave it, sit with both for a minute without fixing it. The calm you want comes out of that friction, not around it.
  2. Say something true and quiet to one person today, then let it go. You will not see it land, and it may work in them for months without either of you knowing.
  3. In a tense meeting or a tense kitchen, let the argument happen inside you and not out of your mouth. Whoever stays settled while the pressure runs is the one everyone ends up following.

What inner argument of yours is quietly growing into the calm you will have later?

Tao Te Ching 42

The ten thousand things come out of the meeting of opposites, and harmony is what settles once those two have worn against each other. Stillness is not the absence of the struggle, it is what the struggle finally produces.

Bhagavad Gita

Arjuna finds his clear inner ruler only in the middle of a battlefield, with both armies drawn up in front of him. The teaching is given to a divided man, not a peaceful one.

Zen

A teacher's words are planted like seed, and they often take root in a student long before the student can say what they mean. Hearing is already the beginning of growing.
