Proverbs 11:19 Meaning He Who Is Truly Righteous Gets Life

He who is truly righteous gets life. He who pursues evil gets death.

What does Proverbs 11:19 mean?

Everything a mind pursues, it becomes. To lean toward righteousness, toward the vision of innocence, is to move toward life, because life is what the mind is when it stops accusing.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Everything a mind pursues, it becomes. To lean toward righteousness, toward the vision of innocence, is to move toward life, because life is what the mind is when it stops accusing. To chase evil is to chase the belief in guilt, and that belief leads only to the sense of death, the deep tiredness of a mind convinced it is separate and under threat. No outside power delivers either end. The mind arrives at whatever it has been reaching for.

Death here is not the body's ending. It is what a mind feels when it has followed fear all the way down, and it lifts the moment love is chosen instead.

  1. When you catch yourself scrolling toward whatever makes you angry, name what you are chasing out loud, even quietly, and then put the phone face down. You are not losing information, you are stepping out of a direction.
  2. Before you see a family member you have an old argument with, decide one thing in advance: today you are looking for what is good in them. Then actually look, through dinner, through the dishes, through the small irritations.
  3. In traffic or in a long line, when the complaint starts running in your head, let it finish and then ask yourself where it is taking you. Breathe once and lean the other way, toward the ordinary fact that everyone here is just trying to get home.

If my mind becomes what it keeps reaching for, what have I been reaching for all week?

Dhammapada 1

We are made by our thoughts. Hold a harmful thought and suffering follows like a wheel behind the cart; hold a clear one and ease follows just as closely.

Tao Te Ching

The soft and the yielding belong to what is alive. The rigid and the forcing belong to what is already dying, whatever its outward strength.

You are not harmed by events but by the judgments you carry about them. Whatever you keep rehearsing is the life you are actually living in.
