Proverbs 11:8 Meaning A Righteous Person Is Delivered Out

A righteous person is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked takes his place.

What does Proverbs 11:8 mean?

One mind is lifted out of trouble the moment it changes teachers, for the trouble was never in events but in the frightened way of looking, and a different sight sets it free. The rescue asks nothing of the world; only the mind that looks is changed.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

One mind is lifted out of trouble the moment it changes teachers, for the trouble was never in events but in the frightened way of looking, and a different sight sets it free. The rescue asks nothing of the world; only the mind that looks is changed.

What seems to take the sufferer's place is not another person condemned but the same choice for fear, still standing wherever love has not yet been welcomed. The trouble did not move to a neighbor. It remained exactly where the mind kept choosing it, and it ends wherever the mind chooses again.

  1. When something at work goes wrong today, sit with it for one minute before you do anything about it, and ask whether the weight you feel is coming from the situation or from the story you have already written about it.
  2. If someone close to you is stuck in a hard spot, resist fixing their circumstances first and just help them see it differently, out loud, together.
  3. In traffic or a slow checkout line, when the irritation rises, let yourself feel it and then quietly put it down, without moving the blame onto the driver ahead or the person at the register.

What trouble am I carrying today that might only be a way I have decided to look?

The same truth in other traditions

Stoicism · Epictetus

What disturbs us is not the thing that happened but our judgment about it. Change the judgment and the trouble loosens its hold, though the event stays exactly as it was.

Dhammapada 1

All that we are arises from what we have thought. Suffering follows the mind that holds a painful view, the way a wheel follows the ox that pulls it.

Zen

Two monks argued over whether the flag was moving or the wind. Their teacher said neither: it is your mind that moves.
