Proverbs 12:7 Meaning The Wicked Are Overthrown

The wicked are overthrown, and are no more, but the house of the righteous shall stand.

What does Proverbs 12:7 mean?

What the ego builds is overthrown because it was never truly there, and to call it overthrown is only to say that an illusion, looked at clearly, dissolves. The mind that constructed itself out of fear seems to fall, yet nothing real is lost, for what rested on separation had no substance to begin with.

What the ego builds is overthrown because it was never truly there, and to call it overthrown is only to say that an illusion, looked at clearly, dissolves. The mind that constructed itself out of fear seems to fall, yet nothing real is lost, for what rested on separation had no substance to begin with.

The dwelling of a mind that has chosen love goes on standing, not because it defends itself against ruin but because it was built on truth, and truth cannot be undone. A mind at home in love is not spared some disaster others suffer; it simply rests where nothing can threaten it, and finds that only what fear made can fall away.

House: the dwelling the mind builds for itself, standing firm when founded on love and dissolving when founded on the illusion of separation

Live Proverbs 12:7 today

  1. Think of one worst case you have been rehearsing, and ask what is actually holding it up. Usually it is nothing but repetition, and it gets thinner the moment you look.
  2. With someone whose approval you have been quietly working for, drop the effort for one conversation. Be plain and see that the ground under you does not move.
  3. When something does fall apart today, a plan, a schedule, a version of the day you had in mind, let it go without scrambling. What is real is still there after the rest collapses.

What am I afraid of losing that I never actually had?

Buddhism · Dhammapada

The builder of the house has been seen, and the rafters are broken. What fear constructed can be taken apart, and nothing real is lost in the taking.

Tao Te Ching

A house is useful because of the empty space inside it. We value the walls, but it is the openness that we actually live in.

Stoicism · Seneca

We suffer more in imagination than in reality. Most of what we brace against falls over on its own, having never been solid to begin with.
