What does Proverbs 14:1 mean?

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The same mind both builds and tears down, and which it does depends only on the teacher it has chosen. Guided by love, it raises a dwelling of peace thought by thought, each forgiving perception laid quietly upon the last. Nothing outside it is required; the building is done entirely in how it looks.

Guided by fear, that mind undoes its own shelter with its own hands, for every judgment it throws outward is a stone pulled from its own walls. It is never attacked from without; it dismantles itself whenever it chooses to condemn.

House: the inner dwelling of the mind, the state of peace or ruin it builds for itself by the thoughts it chooses to keep Hands: the mind's own power to make, the same strength that raises a home of peace or pulls it down through judgment

Live Proverbs 14:1 today

  1. Before you open anything on your phone this morning, pick the one thought you want to keep today. That is the first stone of the day, and you get to set it.
  2. With one person, let the small irritation go unsaid. Each judgment you swallow is a wall you did not knock out of your own house.
  3. When a meeting or a message makes you want to tear someone down, see the cost to your own calm first. The condemnation lands in your rooms before it reaches theirs.

Am I building my own peace today or quietly taking it apart?

Dhammapada

We are made by our thoughts; what we think we become. The mind builds the life it then lives in.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

The soul takes the color of its thoughts, and you live inside whatever you keep thinking. You can retreat into that inner place any hour and find it as you left it.

Tao Te Ching

What is built by force comes apart; what is built by yielding holds. The grasping hand is the one that breaks the thing.
