Proverbs 14:2 Meaning He Who Walks in His Uprightness Fears

He who walks in his uprightness fears Yahweh, but he who is perverse in his ways despises him.

What does Proverbs 14:2 mean?

To walk in uprightness is to move through the day joined to love, and the reverence spoken of is not dread but the deep respect of a mind that keeps its Source in sight. Such a mind is at peace, because it has aligned itself with what it truly is.

The crooked way is only the ego's turning aside, the choice to see love as a threat and so to push it away. What looks like contempt for God is the mind's fear of its own innocence, and it lasts only until the mind is willing to lay that fear down.

Live Proverbs 14:2 today

  1. Start your commute with one honest sentence about how you actually are, said only to yourself. Facing straight is most of what straight living means.
  2. Say the true thing today to the person you are tempted to manage with a half answer. Crookedness is tiring in a way honesty never is.
  3. When something good comes toward you, a compliment, an offer, a kindness, resist the reflex to deflect it. Let it land for a second before you hand it back.

What good am I pushing away because letting it in would mean I am worth it?

Keep your heart turned toward the divine and act from there, and your deeds come out straight. The crooked path is simply having turned your face away.
