Proverbs 19:6 Meaning Many Will Entreat the Favor

Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.

What does Proverbs 19:6 mean?

A mind under the ego's rule courts whatever seems to hold power and befriends whatever seems to give, forever calculating where its supply will come from. This is love turned into strategy, the self circling the strong and the generous not to join but to gain.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A mind under the ego's rule courts whatever seems to hold power and befriends whatever seems to give, forever calculating where its supply will come from. This is love turned into strategy, the self circling the strong and the generous not to join but to gain. What looks like devotion is fear looking for a patron, certain that safety must be purchased from something outside itself.

Yet the favor it chases was never in another's hand to grant or withhold. The gift the mind truly seeks is the recognition of its own worth, and that is given freely, the instant it stops bargaining and lets love be its only teacher.

Prince: the outer source of power the ego courts for safety, the imagined authority a fearful mind flatters instead of finding its strength within

Live Proverbs 19:6 today

  1. Before you send the next message to someone powerful in your life, read it back and find the flattery. Cut it, and say the plain thing you actually mean.
  2. Spend real attention today on the person nobody in the room is courting, the quiet colleague, the new neighbor. Not to be kind for credit, just to be with someone you want nothing from.
  3. When a decision depends on someone's approval and you can feel yourself shaping yourself to get it, pause and ask what you would say if the approval were already settled. Then say that.

Whose approval am I shaping myself around, and what would I do if I already had it?

Stoicism · Epictetus

If you want what is in another's power to give, you have handed them your peace. Want only what is yours and no one can bargain with you.

Tao Te Ching

The sage does not seek approval and so is not shaken when it is withheld. What is sought outside was never missing inside.

Sufism

The one who loves for the sake of reward is a merchant, not a lover. Real love asks for nothing and so is never disappointed.
