Proverbs 2:14 Meaning Who Rejoice to Do Evil

who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the perverseness of evil,

What does Proverbs 2:14 mean?

There is a strange pleasure the ego takes in being wronged, and this is what delight in evil describes. A mind can come to treasure its grievances, to feel most itself when it is proving another guilty, because every accusation seems to place the blame safely outside and quiet the guilt within for a moment.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

There is a strange pleasure the ego takes in being wronged, and this is what delight in evil describes. A mind can come to treasure its grievances, to feel most itself when it is proving another guilty, because every accusation seems to place the blame safely outside and quiet the guilt within for a moment.

But the relief is false and never lasts. What the mind celebrates in condemning a brother is only its own fear, mirrored back and mistaken for justice, and the joy of attack is the surest sign that it has forgotten it could simply be at peace.

The wicked: the figure the mind builds from its own projected guilt, the enemy it needs so it can go on believing the fault lies anywhere but home.

  1. When you catch the small thrill of being right about someone's failure, say so to yourself honestly. Naming that pull takes most of the sweetness out of it.
  2. The next time a conversation turns to what is wrong with someone who is not there, let it pass without adding your piece. See whether you feel lighter or emptier afterward.
  3. When you want to win the argument more than you want it over, stop and ask which one you would actually rather have tonight. Choose that one out loud.

What would you have to give up if you stopped needing someone else to be the problem?
