Proverbs 2:15 Meaning Who Are Crooked in Their Ways

who are crooked in their ways, and wayward in their paths,

What does Proverbs 2:15 mean?

A crooked way is a thought that will not travel straight to its brother. It bends around him, always finding the angle of suspicion, the reading that keeps him at fault and the self apart.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A crooked way is a thought that will not travel straight to its brother. It bends around him, always finding the angle of suspicion, the reading that keeps him at fault and the self apart. This is how the ego moves, never toward another in simple trust but always sideways, guarding the distance it calls safety.

The correction is not to straighten the world but to want a straight seeing again. When a mind tires of the endless turning and asks to look directly, the crookedness falls away, for it was only ever the shape of a wish to stay separate.

Crooked ways: thoughts that will not travel straight to a brother, the bent and suspicious seeing the mind uses to keep itself apart.

  1. When you reread a message and start hunting for the hidden meaning in it, stop and take the words at face value once. See what the sentence says before you decide what it meant.
  2. With one person today, ask the plain question instead of working out the answer from clues. Say what you want to know, straight, and let them tell you.
  3. In the middle of a tense call or a meeting where you feel cornered, drop the case you are building. Listen to the next thing the other person says as if they were not trying to win.

Where have I been reading around someone instead of looking at them?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching

The straight way looks plain and offers no cleverness to admire. A mind busy with angles loses the simple road that was under it the whole time.

Zen

A student asked what practice is. The teacher said, when you see, just see. Anything added to the seeing is the bend.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

When someone wrongs you, ask what idea of good and bad they were working from. Understanding their reasoning straightens the look you give them.
