Proverbs 23:34 · World English Bible
Yes, you will be as he who lies down in the middle of the sea, or as he who lies on top of the rigging:
A mind numbed by the ego lies down in the very place that cannot hold it, at rest in a dream of the deep as though nothing were rising to swallow it. To sleep upon the sea is to trust the shifting world of separation for a peace it can never give, and to lie at the top of the mast is to feel the whole self swaying and call the dizziness safety.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
A mind numbed by the ego lies down in the very place that cannot hold it, at rest in a dream of the deep as though nothing were rising to swallow it. To sleep upon the sea is to trust the shifting world of separation for a peace it can never give, and to lie at the top of the mast is to feel the whole self swaying and call the dizziness safety. What looks like calm is only insensibility, a mind so far into illusion it no longer feels the danger it has made.
The correction is not to steady the waves but to wake. A mind that turns to a gentler teacher finds it was never truly adrift, for the sea it feared was its own unwatched thought, and there was solid ground beneath it all along.
Sea: the restless world of separation the sleeping mind trusts for rest, the deep that cannot hold a self yet is mistaken for a bed Mast: the swaying height of the ego's self at its most precarious, the giddy perch where a mind calls its own unsteadiness peace
Christian Psychology lens
Where in my life have I called something calm when it was really just going numb?
The whole path begins with waking up. What we call ordinary life is a kind of sleep, and no amount of rearranging the dream makes it restful.
A student asked the master what he practiced. He said he eats when hungry and sleeps when tired. The point is not calm in the middle of chaos but seeing that the chaos was built out of thought.
Return to the still root. Chasing steadiness in the turning world is how a person loses their footing.
