Proverbs 24:6 Meaning For by Wise Guidance You Wage

for by wise guidance you wage your war; and victory is in many advisors.

What does Proverbs 24:6 mean?

Every mind believes it is at war, and while that belief remains the only question is which teacher it consults. Waged by the ego's counsel, the conflict multiplies enemies and can never be won, for its very strategy is to keep the fight alive.

Christian Psychology

Every mind believes it is at war, and while that belief remains the only question is which teacher it consults. Waged by the ego's counsel, the conflict multiplies enemies and can never be won, for its very strategy is to keep the fight alive. But the war a mind truly faces is the inner one between fear and love, and there the wise counsel is the single voice that answers every attack with the truth that there was never an enemy at all.

Safety was never found in numbers of defenses but in the counsel that ends the need for them. A mind that takes its guidance from love lays down its arms, and discovers the war it feared was over the moment it stopped choosing to fight.

  1. When you are winding yourself up for a confrontation, write out what you are actually afraid of losing. Half the time the enemy was never really there.
  2. Before a hard conversation, ask one person you trust, not to help you win, but to help you see straight. Pick the one who will not just agree with you.
  3. In a tense email thread, resist adding more people to back you up. Numbers make a battle bigger, not safer.

Who have I made into an opponent who was never actually fighting me?

Tao Te Ching 31

Weapons are tools of ill fortune, used only with sorrow and never in triumph. Victory is nothing to celebrate.

Zen

The fight dissolves when you see who you were fighting. Not a better strategy, a different pair of eyes.

Stoicism · Epictetus

He said the real contest is never with another person but with your own impressions. Fighting the wrong opponent means losing no matter who wins.
