Proverbs 24:7 Meaning Wisdom Is Too High for a Fool

Wisdom is too high for a fool. He doesn’t open his mouth in the gate.

What does Proverbs 24:7 mean?

The wisdom that comes from love seems out of reach only to the mind still ruled by the ego, for what fear cannot grasp it calls too high. The fool is not a lesser mind but any mind while it clings to separation, and at the gate, where judgment is spoken and decisions are weighed, it has nothing true to say because it has refused the one teacher who could tell it what is real.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The wisdom that comes from love seems out of reach only to the mind still ruled by the ego, for what fear cannot grasp it calls too high. The fool is not a lesser mind but any mind while it clings to separation, and at the gate, where judgment is spoken and decisions are weighed, it has nothing true to say because it has refused the one teacher who could tell it what is real. Its silence there is not humility but the emptiness of a self that chose fear over sight.

Yet nothing about that wisdom is truly beyond the mind. It is high only to the part that will not look, and the moment fear is set aside it is found to have been near and simple all along.

Wisdom sits high because it lives in the upper reaches of the head, in the still place behind the eyes reached when attention gathers into a single point. The fool is not the stupid person but the scattered one, the mind that runs down into the senses and never climbs. Such a mind cannot even speak at the gate, because the gate is the doorway where attention chooses its direction, and a mind pulled outward turns the wrong way and squanders itself. To rise to wisdom is simply to stop that downward leak and let the focus lift to the crown, where understanding already waits.

The height is not distance but altitude of consciousness, and any person who quiets the noise and draws the eye inward finds that what seemed too high was only too high for a mind facing the wrong way.

Wisdom: the higher knowing seated in the upper room of the head, opened when attention narrows to a single inward point Gate: the doorway of attention where a person turns either inward toward the crown or outward toward the senses and loss

  1. Admit out loud to yourself one thing you do not actually understand. The honesty opens more than the pretending ever did.
  2. When someone offers you an insight about yourself, say thank you and sit with it for a day instead of answering right away. You do not have to have a position on it yet.
  3. In a meeting where you are expected to have the answer, try saying you want to think about it. Silence from not knowing is honest. Silence from refusing to look is not.

What have I decided is beyond me so I never have to look at it?

A cup already full cannot be filled. What seems out of reach is usually just blocked by what we insist we already know.

The teaching is easy to understand and easy to practice, yet almost no one does. It is simple, not hard, and that is exactly what gets missed.

He said that selling your cleverness buys bewilderment, which is the better bargain. The one who will not look is the only one for whom the door stays shut.
