Proverbs 25:6 Meaning Don’t Exalt Yourself in the Presence

Don’t exalt yourself in the presence of the king, or claim a place among great men;

What does Proverbs 25:6 mean?

The ego is forever pressing itself forward, seeking a higher place, certain that its worth must be seized and displayed before it is lost. This restless self-advancement is guilt in disguise, for only a mind that secretly believes it is small strains so hard to be seen as great.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The ego is forever pressing itself forward, seeking a higher place, certain that its worth must be seized and displayed before it is lost. This restless self-advancement is guilt in disguise, for only a mind that secretly believes it is small strains so hard to be seen as great. When a mind stops crowding toward the seat of honor and grows quiet in the presence of what truly governs it, it discovers it had nothing to prove and no rank to defend.

Worth was never won by climbing. It was there before the striving began.

King: the true governing Self within, the presence beside which the ego's self-display is revealed as unnecessary. Great men: the imagined heights of importance the ego strains toward, the borrowed grandeur it mistakes for its value.

  1. Do one good thing today that nobody finds out about. Let it be enough that you know.
  2. In a conversation, let someone else have the last word and the better story. Hold back the thing you were going to add about yourself.
  3. In the meeting or the group chat, when you feel the itch to prove you were right or first, let the moment pass. The work speaks later without your help.

What would I stop straining for if I already believed I was worth something?
