Proverbs 26:2 Meaning Like a Fluttering Sparrow

Like a fluttering sparrow, like a darting swallow, so the undeserved curse doesn’t come to rest.

What does Proverbs 26:2 mean?

An attack thought sent out without a real cause finds no place to land in a mind that has claimed its innocence. Guilt is what gives a curse its landing ground, and where the mind refuses to receive the accusation as true, the words pass over like a bird that never alights, unable to make a home in what will not house them.

Christian Psychology

An attack thought sent out without a real cause finds no place to land in a mind that has claimed its innocence. Guilt is what gives a curse its landing ground, and where the mind refuses to receive the accusation as true, the words pass over like a bird that never alights, unable to make a home in what will not house them.

The world is full of judgments hurled from fear, but none of them can touch a mind that knows it has done nothing to deserve them. The curse hangs on the belief that it is earned. Withdraw that belief, and it simply keeps flying, having nowhere in the mind to come down.

Bird: the accusation loosed from fear, always in motion and unable to rest where no guilt invites it. Swallow: the drifting attack thought that seeks a place to settle, kept aloft by the innocence that offers it no ground.

Live Proverbs 26:2 today

  1. When a comment or an email leaves a small sting, name the exact sentence and ask plainly whether it is true. If it is not, you can stop rehearsing it and go back to your day.
  2. If someone is short with you today, let it be their weather rather than your verdict. You can answer kindly without filing the remark away as something about you.
  3. Under real pressure, when blame gets handed around and some lands near you, take the part that is yours and leave the rest in the air. You do not have to pick up what was thrown in a panic.

What have I been holding onto that was never actually mine?

If someone speaks badly of you and it is untrue, laugh at it. The insult only becomes an injury when you agree to carry it.

Buddhism · the Buddha on the gift refused

A gift that is not accepted stays with the giver. Anger offered to someone who does not take it up returns to the one who offered it.

Tao Te Ching 22

The one with nothing to defend gives contention nothing to grip. There is no handle on a person who is not holding on.
