Proverbs 28:12 Meaning When the Righteous Triumph

When the righteous triumph, there is great glory; but when the wicked rise, men hide themselves.

What does Proverbs 28:12 mean?

When the mind lets love be its teacher, there is nothing in it that needs concealing, and its joy is simply what a mind looks like when it has stopped defending against itself. Glory here is not reward but the natural radiance of a mind with nothing to hide, because it has laid down the belief that it is guilty and must be watched.

When fear rises to power instead, the self goes into hiding, drawing back from sight as though exposure were danger. That hiding is guilt at work, a mind so sure of its own condemnation that it flees from being seen at all. The one correction is to let it be seen and found innocent, for what love looks upon it never accuses.

Righteous men: the parts of the mind that have chosen love as their teacher, whose joy is a mind no longer at war with itself The wicked: the ego risen to rule, the belief in separation that governs by fear and drives the self into hiding

Live Proverbs 28:12 today

  1. Do one thing today you have been doing only where nobody can see, or stop doing it. The test is simple: would you still do it with the door open?
  2. Tell one person the thing you have been carefully not mentioning. You will probably find they were never the judge you had cast them as.
  3. When you are caught out, late, wrong, unprepared, do not shrink or spin. Say what happened in one plain sentence and stay in the room.

What am I hiding, and what would it cost me to be seen holding it?

Zen

A person with nothing to hide moves through the world without a shadow of effort. The weight most of us carry is the weight of concealment.

Sufism · Rumi

The wound is where the light enters. What you keep hidden stays dark, what you let be seen begins to heal.

Stoicism · Seneca

Live as though everything you do were done in the open, because the hiding is the hardest part. A life that fears being seen is already a punishment.
