Proverbs 28:17 · World English Bible
A man who is tormented by life blood will be a fugitive until death; no one will support him.
A mind that has attacked and believes the attack was real cannot rest, and it flies toward its own condemnation as though the pit were where it belonged. This is guilt running its full course: having thrown its darkness at another, the mind is now certain of its own, and it hurries toward punishment because it has already judged itself deserving.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
A mind that has attacked and believes the attack was real cannot rest, and it flies toward its own condemnation as though the pit were where it belonged. This is guilt running its full course: having thrown its darkness at another, the mind is now certain of its own, and it hurries toward punishment because it has already judged itself deserving.
The command to stay no hand that flees is the picture of a mind that will not be argued out of its guilt, that insists on the sentence and refuses every rescue. Yet the whole flight rests on one mistake, the belief that the wrong was more than a figure in a dream. Seen as that, it can be overlooked, and the mind racing toward the pit discovers there was no pit to reach.
The pit: the mind's image of its own condemnation, the punishment guilt runs toward once it is sure of itself

One who has repented must not be reminded of what he once was, for that wounding by words is its own wrong. The record is closed; reopening it is the new offense.
Two monks carried a woman across the river, and one set her down at the bank while the other carried her all day in his mind. Only one of them was still burdened at nightfall.
