CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A mind is bound by nothing outside itself. What it declares, it makes real to itself, and every judgment it speaks becomes the rope that holds it. The ego loves to pronounce, to name another guilty or a situation dangerous, never seeing that each verdict falls back upon the one who gives it.

The trap here is not the world but the thought that framed it. A mind caught this way is caught by its own choosing, and the same power that spoke the sentence can withdraw it. To take back the word of condemnation is to walk free.

Snare: the belief a mind builds and then mistakes for a fact set outside it, the self-made trap that only its own thought keeps shut

  1. If you wrote something sharp in your notes app or a draft message last night, read it back today and delete it. You do not owe that verdict to anyone, including yourself.
  2. Catch one sentence before it leaves you in a conversation where you were about to sum someone up. Say what happened instead of what they are.
  3. In traffic or a slow line, when the label arrives for the person in front of you, let it go unsaid and unfinished. See how much lighter the next ten minutes feel.

Which of my own words am I still living inside?

The same truth in other traditions

Taoism · Zhuangzi

Once you have divided the world into right and wrong with your words, you must live inside that division. The cage was built by naming things.

Dhammapada

Speak with a settled mind and ease follows you like your own shadow. Speak from a mind set on blame and the suffering follows just as closely.

Judaism · Talmud, Arachin

Speech used against another harms three at once: the one who says it, the one who hears it, and the one spoken of. The speaker is never left untouched by his own words.
