Proverbs 6:24 Meaning To Keep You From the Immoral Woman

to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue.

What does Proverbs 6:24 mean?

What the inner light guards against is not a person but a voice, the smooth persuasion of the ego that speaks always in the mind's own ear. Its counsel sounds like care and flatters what is weakest in the one who listens, promising in separation the comfort that only love can give.

What the inner light guards against is not a person but a voice, the smooth persuasion of the ego that speaks always in the mind's own ear. Its counsel sounds like care and flatters what is weakest in the one who listens, promising in separation the comfort that only love can give. It is called strange because it is foreign to the truth of the mind, an intruder that has learned to sound familiar.

A mind kept from this voice is not made rigid or afraid; it is simply no longer deceived. The protection is recognition, the moment the flattery is seen for what it is and its promise is known to be empty. What seemed a seductive friend is understood as the belief in lack, and once understood it loses the power to lead.

Evil woman: the ego's voice within the mind, the counsel of separation that presents itself as care while leading the mind away from what it is. Strange woman: the same voice heard as a stranger, foreign to the mind's own truth, whose flattering speech promises in isolation what only love can give.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The strange woman is not a person outside but the seductive pull of the lower emotional and sensual nature within, the feeling-force turned away from spirit and toward mere appetite. Her flattering tongue is the inner voice that soothes and coaxes a person deeper into the desires of the flesh, promising sweetness while it drains the higher life.

The teaching guards the inner man from being drawn down by his own lower feeling dressed up as pleasure. When the seductive whisper of appetite is recognized for what it is, its flattery loses the power to pull the higher nature down into the senses.

Live Proverbs 6:24 today

  1. When a thought shows up today telling you that you would be fine if you just had one more thing, pause and ask what it is actually promising. Say the promise out loud and it usually falls apart.
  2. If someone praises you in a way that quietly asks you to be smaller or harder than you are, you can thank them and still not take the bait. Agreement is not required.
  3. Before a tense email reply, read your draft once and ask which voice wrote it, the one that wants peace or the one that wants to win. Send the one you can live with tomorrow.

What have I been believing because it was said kindly rather than because it was true?

Craving speaks in a voice that sounds like care, promising that the next thing will finally settle you. Seeing through the promise is what frees you, not fighting it.

When an impression arrives, do not be swept along. Stop and say to it: wait, let me see what you actually are. Half of its power is in going unexamined.
