Proverbs 6:31 Meaning But If He Is Found

but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.

What does Proverbs 6:31 mean?

What must be given back is not a payment exacted by an angry world but the whole illusion of lack that made the taking seem needful in the first place. To be found is to be brought into the light where the error is seen, and there the mind restores fully, giving up not merely the thing taken but the entire belief that it was ever empty.

Christian Psychology

What must be given back is not a payment exacted by an angry world but the whole illusion of lack that made the taking seem needful in the first place. To be found is to be brought into the light where the error is seen, and there the mind restores fully, giving up not merely the thing taken but the entire belief that it was ever empty. The house it empties is the storehouse of grievances it had mistaken for its wealth.

This restoring is not punishment but healing, the return of a mind to the truth it never actually left. Sevenfold means completely, holding nothing back, for a half-released illusion still binds. When a mind gives up the whole belief in separation, it does not lose; it is finally free of a debt it only imagined it owed.

House: the storehouse of the mind's accumulated grievances and false beliefs, mistaken for treasure, which must be wholly emptied for peace. Substance: everything the mind had stored up in separation, the entire illusion of lack that is given back when the error is brought to light.

  1. Open your phone and clear one thing you have been hoarding out of resentment: the screenshot of the argument, the saved email you keep rereading, the draft reply you will never send. Delete it, all of it, not just some.
  2. If there is something you owe someone, money, an apology, a straight answer, give it today and give the whole thing. Half an apology leaves the debt in place.
  3. When you feel the urge to defend yourself point by point in a tense exchange, try dropping the whole case instead of trimming it. See how light your shoulders get.

What am I still storing up that I have been calling treasure?

The way forward is by subtraction, not addition. You arrive by giving things up, not by stacking more on.

Zen · the empty cup

A cup already full can hold nothing more, so the teaching is to pour it out rather than look for a bigger cup. What feels like loss is the room where something true can arrive.

Sufism · Rumi

He opens the Masnavi with the reed flute, which can sing only because it was cut from the reed bed and hollowed out. The emptying is what makes the music possible.
