Proverbs 7:20 Meaning He Has Taken a Bag of Money

He has taken a bag of money with him. He will come home at the full moon.

What does Proverbs 7:20 mean?

Temptation wants the mind to believe not only that love is absent but that it will stay absent, safely delayed until some far-off appointed day. The ego carries this reassurance because it needs time, the illusion that there is a long stretch in which separation carries no consequence and no truer voice will return to interrupt it.

Christian Psychology

Temptation wants the mind to believe not only that love is absent but that it will stay absent, safely delayed until some far-off appointed day. The ego carries this reassurance because it needs time, the illusion that there is a long stretch in which separation carries no consequence and no truer voice will return to interrupt it. It measures out a season of apparent safety.

Yet the true self keeps no such calendar. It is present now, not at some distant date the ego has set. A mind that believes love has gone away with its treasure and will not soon return can remember that no such delay is real, and that the teacher it thought postponed has never left the room.

Bag of money: the treasure the mind imagines love has carried off with it, the assurance that all worth has gone away for a season Day appointed: the far-off return the ego promises, the illusion of delay that lets separation feel safe and without consequence

Live Proverbs 7:20 today

  1. Pick the one thing you have been telling yourself you will deal with next week and give it the first four minutes of today, right now, before you open anything else. The delay was the problem, not the task.
  2. If there is a message you owe someone, an apology or a real answer instead of a thumbs up, send it today. Not when you have the right words. Today.
  3. When you catch yourself thinking I will be a kinder person once this project is over, be kind in the next thing you say instead. The calmer season you are waiting for is made out of moments like this one.

What am I saving for a day that keeps not arriving?

Zen

There is no practice tomorrow. Awakening is available only in the moment you are actually in, never in the one you are planning for.

Stoicism · Seneca

We keep postponing living as though we had an endless supply of days. The only time truly in your hands is right now, and putting things off is the surest way to lose it.

Buddhism · Dhammapada

Do not put off the good you could do now, saying you will do it later. The mind that waits for a better day slides quietly into the habit of waiting.
