Proverbs 8:22 Meaning Yahweh Possessed Me in the Beginning

Yahweh possessed me in the beginning of his work, before his deeds of old.

What does Proverbs 8:22 mean?

The voice of love within a mind is not a late arrival, something learned or added after fear built its world. It belongs to the mind's very source and was present before any of the mind's making, before the first thought of separation cast its long shadow.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The voice of love within a mind is not a late arrival, something learned or added after fear built its world. It belongs to the mind's very source and was present before any of the mind's making, before the first thought of separation cast its long shadow. Whatever the ego has since constructed, this gentle knowing was there first.

So a mind afraid it has strayed too far to return may remember that love is older than its fear. The Teacher it seeks did not begin with the world's troubles; it was there at the start, and it is there still, unchanged beneath everything the mind has dreamed.

The LORD: the mind's changeless source in love, the ground of being from which its true self has never been apart

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Before anything was made, before the first of all forms came into being, there was already presence. Not a thing among things, but the formless awareness out of which every form would arise. It was there in the beginning of the way, before the works of old.

This is what you are beneath your name and your story. Every form appears and dissolves, but the consciousness in which forms appear came before them all. It does not belong to time, because time itself is only the movement of forms, and this awareness was already present before the first form stirred.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The first thing the imagination ever held was the Way itself, the pattern by which every man is brought home. Before anything was made, this Way already stood complete in the mind of God: the whole plan of redemption personified, speaking here as Wisdom. Picture imagination laid out as a road, the fixed order along which a man rises from where he is to what he is meant to become.

Nothing here is an afterthought. Before the works came the design of the works, and the design was the way back. Imagination is that Way, possessed from the beginning, holding the end of the journey inside itself before the journey starts. Everything a man will become was already present as the pattern that shapes him.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

When an old text pictures Wisdom as a woman present before anything was made, it is describing something the deep mind knows about itself. Below the busy surface of thought lies an older layer, and from it rise figures far wiser than the everyday self. This one appears as a woman, the life-giving, ordering side of a person.

She comes before all works because the pattern that shapes what we build is already there in the depths before we lift a hand. Whatever a person makes grows out of an inner order that was waiting long before the work began.

Live Proverbs 8:22 today

  1. Sometime today, before you open your phone, sit with it face down for a few breaths and let yourself be the one who existed before the notifications did. You were here first; the inbox came later.
  2. With one person, listen as if the calm part of them is older than whatever they are upset about. Speak to that older part, not to the argument.
  3. When pressure hits, a hard meeting, traffic, a message that lands wrong, say quietly to yourself: this fear is newer than I am. Then take the next small step from there.

What in me was already steady before today's worry ever showed up?

Tao Te Ching 25

The way was there before heaven and earth, nameless and unborn, the mother of everything that later took shape. It is not one of the things made; it is what the making came out of.
