Proverbs 8:24 · World English Bible
When there were no depths, I was born, when there were no springs abounding with water.
Before any turbulence in the mind, before the deep places where fear seems to gather and the world of experience floods in, something older was already present. It does not begin when the trouble begins.

CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY
Before any turbulence in the mind, before the deep places where fear seems to gather and the world of experience floods in, something older was already present. It does not begin when the trouble begins. A mind that thinks its pain is the first fact about itself has forgotten that it knew a wholeness before any of this, a quiet that no rising water touched.
That wholeness is not produced by the mind's efforts and cannot be drowned by its storms. It waits underneath every anxious surface, unharmed, exactly as it always was. The invitation is to remember that you were peaceful first, and that the flood came second and can be set down.
Depths: the mind's deep places where fear seems to pool and gather, the felt sense that trouble runs all the way down Fountains of water: the flooding rush of experience and emotion, the seeming source from which the world of feeling pours
Christian Psychology lens
Where was my peace this morning, before the day's water rose?
The mind settled is like a deep lake, clear and undisturbed; the troubles that stir the surface were never the water itself.
Muddy water clears when it is left alone. The clarity was not added, it was waiting under the churning.
Waves rise and fall, but the water is always water. Nothing that the surface does changes what it is made of.
