Psalms 51:11 · World English Bible
Don’t throw me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.
There is a deep fear in the human heart, the fear of being separated from the living presence that is the source of all peace. It feels possible to lose it, to be cast out and left in the barrenness of a life run only by the anxious mind.
From the Ego v. Being reading below.

EGO & BEING
There is a deep fear in the human heart, the fear of being separated from the living presence that is the source of all peace. It feels possible to lose it, to be cast out and left in the barrenness of a life run only by the anxious mind.
Yet the presence you fear losing is not something outside you that can send you away. It is the very awareness through which you are conscious in this moment. You cannot truly be cast out of it. You can only forget it, turning instead to the endless noise of thought. Nothing is being taken from you. The moment you grow still and turn toward it again, you find it was here all along.

SUFISM
Under this plea is the deepest fear of a heart that has failed: not punishment, but distance. The man who has done wrong dreads being left alone with himself, cut off from the nearness that gave his life its warmth. The cure is this very honesty, naming the fear instead of numbing it with distraction.
Yet the fear misreads the case. The One whose presence he begs for is nearer to him than his own pulse, closer than the breath moving in and out. A stream may forget the spring, but it has never for an instant flowed apart from it. He is asking to keep what was never actually going to leave, and the asking itself is the spring making itself felt.
Ego v. Being lens
What am I afraid of losing that was never really outside me?
The one you are crying out for is the one who gave you the cry. Your longing is already the answer touching you.
Two birds sit in the same tree. One eats the fruit and worries, the other simply watches. Both are you, and the watcher never leaves.
The source is like a well that never empties. Use it all day and it is not diminished.
