Ego v. Being

The joy prayed for here was never lost. It lay buried under guilt, under the endless replay of what went wrong, under a mind that keeps circling the past. Beneath all of that, something in a person stays untouched and quietly alive.

That joy comes back not through effort but through a loosening, a spirit that moves freely because it is no longer chained to yesterday. When the weight of self-judgment falls away, the aliveness that was always present rises again on its own. Joy returns the moment the inner noise dies down.

  1. When you catch yourself replaying a mistake today, say to yourself that it is over and feel the room you are actually standing in. The guilt is a loop, not a sentence.
  2. Let yourself laugh at something small with someone today, even if you feel you have not earned lightness. You have not disqualified yourself from being alive.
  3. Under a deadline, when everything feels grim, loosen your shoulders and take one breath that is not about the task. The gladness underneath is still running. You just stopped listening to it.

What good thing am I keeping myself away from as a kind of punishment?
