Psalms 51:6 · World English Bible
Behold, you desire truth in the inward parts. You teach me wisdom in the inmost place.
The mind lives on the surface, arranging appearances, managing how things look. But what is real is not reached there.
From the Ego v. Being reading below.
The same verse, read by 3 traditions.

EGO & BEING
The mind lives on the surface, arranging appearances, managing how things look. But what is real is not reached there. Truth is wanted in the inward parts, in the depth below the personality where no performance can go. It cannot be thought or argued into being. It is simply recognized when you grow still enough to feel it.
Wisdom does not arrive as more information for the mind to hold. It rises in the hidden part, in the silent awareness underneath your thinking, the moment you stop and turn inward. When you cease polishing the outer self and rest in that inner depth, you come to know directly what no amount of outer effort could ever teach you.

SUFISM
A person can be spotless on the surface and false underneath, saying the honest thing while a small lie about the self stays comfortable in the dark. This prayer names that hidden dishonesty as the real fault. The cure is a plain and painful honesty in the one place no one else can inspect: telling the truth about oneself when nothing forces it.
And that depth is not empty. The One asked for truth there is already teaching it, so wisdom is not carried in from outside; it rises like water in a well fed from below.

AWARENESS
Truth wanted in the inward parts leaves morality out of it. Behavior can be arranged perfectly while the center stays rotten, because the arranging is done by the ego for eyes that might be watching. What a man is when nobody is looking is the whole of it.
Wisdom in the inmost place cannot be handed over. Scriptures give information, and information stays borrowed; borrowed light goes out the moment a real darkness arrives. What rises from within is recognized rather than learned, the way a taste is known the instant it touches the tongue and never a moment before.
Ego v. Being lens
What do I already know underneath all the explaining?
You do not have to leave your house to understand the world. Looking further out often means seeing less.
Stop searching the world for what you lost. Dig where you stand, because the treasure is buried under your own feet.
A teacher is like a finger pointing at the moon. Keep staring at the finger and you miss what it was showing you.
