Revelation 1:12 Meaning I Turned to See the Voice

I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. Having turned, I saw seven golden lamp stands.

What does Revelation 1:12 mean?

Turning to see a voice is the awareness reversing its direction, leaving the outward world to look back toward the source of sound within. A voice cannot be seen by the eyes, so the turning is inward, the mind facing its own depths instead of the scene in front of it.

Turning to see a voice is the awareness reversing its direction, leaving the outward world to look back toward the source of sound within. A voice cannot be seen by the eyes, so the turning is inward, the mind facing its own depths instead of the scene in front of it. What appears once the gaze is reversed is the row of 7 lamps, the sacred centers standing lit along the spine. The number 7 counts those centers from base to crown, the full column of light that opens only to a consciousness that has turned around.

The candlesticks are the energy centers of the body, and they become visible the moment attention stops facing outward and turns to its own inner column.

The voice: the inner sound of one's own source, heard within rather than in the outer world The 7 golden candlesticks: the sacred energy centers along the spine, standing as lamps of light within the body The number 7: the count of those centers, the complete ladder of illumination from base to crown

Live Revelation 1:12 today

  1. Once today, instead of following a thought where it wants to take you, look at the fact that you are thinking it. Attention turned around, just for thirty seconds.
  2. In the middle of a conversation, catch yourself mid-sentence and feel what is actually going on inside you as you speak. Nervous, warm, defensive. Same words, more of you present.
  3. When something online or on the news grips you, pull your eyes off the screen and look at what it did to your body. The pull is out there, the reaction is in here.

What are you always looking at, and when did you last look back the other way?

Zen

The practice is to turn the light around and let it shine back on its own source, instead of forever chasing what is lit up in front of you.

Tao Te Ching

Knowing the world is one thing. Knowing yourself is the real seeing, and it comes from looking the other way.

Hinduism · Ramana Maharshi

Ask who is seeing all this, and keep asking. Attention turned back on itself finds the one place it never thought to look.
