Revelation 11:8 · World English Bible
Their dead bodies will be in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also their Lord was crucified.
The higher faculties, once slain within a person, lie exposed in the open thoroughfare of the ordinary mind, the great city being the crowded lower consciousness where the world's traffic of thought passes through. This city is named Sodom for its surrender to the senses and Egypt for its bondage to matter, the 2 states of a soul sunk in the flesh.

ESOTERIC
The higher faculties, once slain within a person, lie exposed in the open thoroughfare of the ordinary mind, the great city being the crowded lower consciousness where the world's traffic of thought passes through. This city is named Sodom for its surrender to the senses and Egypt for its bondage to matter, the 2 states of a soul sunk in the flesh.
Here too the anointing principle is crucified, for the Christ-light in a person is always put to death in this same lower ground, nailed down wherever sense and material bondage rule. The killing happens in the street of the common mind, in plain view of every passing thought.
Great city: the crowded lower consciousness, the busy ordinary mind where thoughts pass like traffic Street: the open thoroughfare of that mind, where inner things lie exposed to every passing thought Sodom: the state of surrender to the senses, the self given over to sensual appetite Egypt: the state of bondage to matter, the soul held captive in the flesh
Esoteric lens
What good thing in me goes quiet whenever I let the noise set the pace?
The mind untrained runs wherever it likes, and the harm it does is worse than any enemy's. What is best in a person dies in that crowded traffic, not out in the world.
Too much color blinds the eye, too much sound deafens the ear, too much flavor dulls the mouth. The chase after the senses leaves a person empty in the middle of plenty.
The senses drag the mind the way wind drags a boat off course. Whoever lets them pull loses the steady part of himself, and it happens inside, under his own roof.
