Revelation 15:8 Meaning The Temple Was Filled with Smoke From

The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power. No one was able to enter into the temple until the seven plagues of the seven angels would be finished.

What does Revelation 15:8 mean?

The holy place fills with smoke, and for a time no one may enter. There are seasons when God draws so near that His nearness overwhelms, and the fault the heart shows is impatience, the demand to force the door and seize what can only be given.

Sufism

The holy place fills with smoke, and for a time no one may enter. There are seasons when God draws so near that His nearness overwhelms, and the fault the heart shows is impatience, the demand to force the door and seize what can only be given. The cure is a waiting that trusts the timing to Another.

The smoke that shuts the door is itself the sign of His presence, glory too full for the room to hold. What feels like being kept out is being kept safe until the hour is ready.

Live Revelation 15:8 today

  1. When you reach for your phone today to check whether something has come through yet, put it down once and let the not knowing sit for an hour. The hour is not wasted time, it is the waiting doing its work.
  2. If someone in your life is not ready to talk about the thing you want to talk about, say you are here when they are, and then stop knocking. Forcing the door would get you a version of them you did not want.
  3. In a week where a decision is stuck above your head, do the small piece in front of you and let the closed part stay closed. Being kept out for now can be the same thing as being kept safe.

What door have you been pushing on that was never yours to open?

Tao Te Ching 15

Muddy water clears when it is left alone. Reaching in to speed it up is exactly what keeps it cloudy.

Buddhism

Patience is listed among the great trainings, not as passive sitting but as the strength to stay without grabbing. What you cannot force, you can still be present for.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Some things are in your hands and some are not, and peace comes from knowing which is which. A door that opens on someone else's timing is not yours to kick.
