Revelation 16:1 · World English Bible

Revelation 16:1 Meaning I Heard a Loud Voice Out

I heard a loud voice out of the temple, saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the seven bowls of the wrath of God on the earth!”

What does Revelation 16:1 mean?

The temple is the body, and the voice coming out of it is awareness speaking from within the human frame, not a command shouted from heaven. The number 7 marks the 7 energy centers strung along the spine, the ganglia the old texts call angels because each governs and messages a region of the self.

The temple is the body, and the voice coming out of it is awareness speaking from within the human frame, not a command shouted from heaven. The number 7 marks the 7 energy centers strung along the spine, the ganglia the old texts call angels because each governs and messages a region of the self. To pour their vials upon the earth is to release the stored force of these centers down into the earth of the flesh, the dense physical nature, so that what has been held back floods the lower body. The wrath is the intensity of that discharge, the burning that comes when spiritual energy meets and confronts material congestion. So the scene is an inner emptying, the higher centers releasing their charge into the ground of the body to shake loose whatever has settled there.

What reads as the end of a world is the crisis inside one person: the 7 stations along the backbone loosing their power downward, and the flesh feeling the heat of a current it has long resisted.

Temple: the human body, the built structure that houses awareness and from which the inner voice speaks 7 angels: the number 7, the 7 energy centers ranged along the spine, each a messenger governing its own region of the self Earth: the dense physical flesh, the ground of the body onto which the higher force is poured out

Live Revelation 16:1 today

  1. Stand up and breathe slowly into your belly for one minute, feeling the breath reach your legs and feet. Anything you have been holding in your shoulders and jaw has a body, and the body is where you let it go.
  2. Tell one person something true that you have been storing up and talking yourself out of saying. Say it kindly, and let it be out of you rather than sitting in your chest.
  3. Next time your heart pounds before a call or a hard message, stay in your body instead of leaving it. Feel your feet, feel the heat, and send the message anyway.

What have I been keeping stored and quiet that my body is already tired of carrying?

The same truth in other traditions

Hinduism · kundalini and the chakras

The yogic texts map centers of energy along the spine, and awakening is described as force moving through them until it reaches the body itself. The heat and shaking in that process are the point, not a mistake.

Taoism · inner alchemy

The body is the vessel where refinement happens. Breath and energy are circulated down and through, and what is stagnant gets burned off in the passing.

Sufism

The heart is a house, and when the Beloved enters, the furniture gets thrown out. The upheaval is the guest arriving, not the roof falling in.
