What does Revelation 17:1 mean?

The great whore is the lower nature that has sold itself to the senses, the desire-self that gives its energy to whatever offers pleasure, and she sits upon many waters because she rules the restless multitude of thoughts and feelings that surge through a person. The number 7 belongs to the completed cycle of the inner centers, so the 7 angels with their 7 vials are the full order of higher forces come to weigh and expose her.

The great whore is the lower nature that has sold itself to the senses, the desire-self that gives its energy to whatever offers pleasure, and she sits upon many waters because she rules the restless multitude of thoughts and feelings that surge through a person. Judgment here is the seeing-through of that scattered, self-selling nature. The desire-self that drinks from every passing appetite is finally recognized for what it is and its rule over the inner waters ends.

Great whore: the lower desire-nature that sells its energy to the senses for pleasure Many waters: the restless crowd of thoughts and feelings the desire-self rules over 7 vials: the completed set of higher powers poured out to expose and weigh the lower nature 7 angels: the full order of the inner centers arrayed to bring the desire-self to judgment

Live Revelation 17:1 today

  1. The next time you reach for your phone without deciding to, stop your hand halfway and ask what you were actually hoping to feel. Just seeing the reach for what it is takes some of its power.
  2. In a conversation today, catch the moment you want to say something mainly because it will land well. Let it go unsaid once and stay with the person in front of you instead.
  3. When you are tired and something easy and sweet is offered, a snack, a scroll, a drink, pause five seconds before taking it. You can still take it. The pause is the point.

What have I been giving my energy to all day without ever choosing it?

Dhammapada

Craving is described as a creeping vine that spreads through a person and sends out shoots in every direction. The one who sees it clearly for what it is cuts it at the root instead of trimming the leaves.

Bhagavad Gita 2

The mind that chases after the senses is carried off the way a boat on water is carried off by the wind. Steadiness comes when the senses are drawn back the way a turtle draws in its limbs.

Pleasure makes a promise and then quietly takes command. Wait, look at what it is actually offering, and the spell it had over you weakens.
