Revelation 18:7 · World English Bible

Revelation 18:7 Meaning However Much She Glorified Herself

However much she glorified herself, and grew wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning. For she says in her heart, ‘I sit a queen, and am no widow, and will in no way see mourning.’

What does Revelation 18:7 mean?

The self-glorifying part of a person, the ego that feeds on pleasure and calls itself secure, measures its own coming grief by the size of its pride. Sitting as a queen and denying widowhood is the mind's boast that it stands alone, needing no marriage to spirit and fearing no loss.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The self-glorifying part of a person, the ego that feeds on pleasure and calls itself secure, measures its own coming grief by the size of its pride. Sitting as a queen and denying widowhood is the mind's boast that it stands alone, needing no marriage to spirit and fearing no loss. That very denial is the setup for the torment, because whatever refuses its dependence on the higher life is already cut off from what would sustain it. The delicious living is the constant self-indulgence of the outer nature, and it exacts its price in the same coin it enjoyed. The plain fact is that a mind convinced it can never fall has already stopped watching the ground beneath it.

Queen: the ego enthroned in the heart, boasting of a security it does not have Widow: the soul cut off from union with spirit, the loss the proud mind refuses to admit

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

When luxury is doing the work of certainty and significance, every warning sounds like it was meant for someone else.

Significance won by sitting above other people has to be re-bought daily, because the feeling dies the moment nobody is beneath. The hunger sets the state, the state buys more display, and display compounds into a self with no other way to feel real.

Certainty that is declared instead of earned deletes every reason to prepare or grow. Luxury filled the needs of the personality so completely that growth and contribution had no opening left, and a self arranged to be seen cannot spend itself on anyone. God hands back the cost that was folded into the purchase, which is why the torment comes measured rather than random. Giving up that line in the heart costs the elevation and returns the capacity to be corrected while correction is still cheap.

  1. Think of one thing you quietly assume will always be there, a job, your health, a person. Hold it for a minute as the gift it is rather than the floor you stand on.
  2. Admit to someone today that you need their help with something. Needing people is not a weakness in the structure, it is what the structure is made of.
  3. When you are sure you are right in a disagreement, say out loud: I might be wrong about this. Then actually listen to the answer.

What am I counting on that I have never once said thank you for?
