Revelation 18:8 Meaning Therefore in One Day Her Plagues Will

Therefore in one day her plagues will come: death, mourning, and famine; and she will be utterly burned with fire; for the Lord God who has judged her is strong.

What does Revelation 18:8 mean?

The collapse of the false outer self arrives all at once when the light finally reaches it, because an illusion does not decay slowly, it ends the moment truth is seen. Death, mourning, and famine are the 3 ways the ego starves once attention leaves it: the end of its life, the grief over what it clung to, and the drying up of the pleasures that fed it.

The fire is the higher creative energy rising through the body, which does not punish so much as consume whatever cannot stand in its heat. The strength that judges is simply the reality of that inner power, which no self-deception can argue with. When awareness turns fully toward the light, the pretense that ran a person's life burns away in a single recognition.

Fire: the higher creative energy rising through the spine, which consumes whatever is false in its heat Famine: the drying up of the appetites that fed the outer self once attention is withdrawn

Live Revelation 18:8 today

  1. There is probably a story you have been telling yourself that you already know is not true. Say the true version out loud, alone, once. That is usually the whole of it.
  2. If you have been performing a version of yourself for someone, drop it in one small way today. Say the plain thing instead of the polished one.
  3. When something you built falls through this week, let the first reaction pass and then ask what is actually still standing. Usually far more than the panic claimed.

What would end today if I simply stopped pretending it was true?

Zen

Awakening is not gradual the way a fire is not gradual once it catches. You can prepare for years, and the seeing itself takes no time at all.

Hinduism · Advaita Vedanta

Mistaking a rope for a snake can terrify you for an hour. The fear does not fade slowly once the light comes on, it is simply over.

Sufism · Rumi

Whatever burns in you was never truly yours. The fire takes only what was false and leaves what you actually are.
