Revelation 20:9 · World English Bible

Revelation 20:9 Meaning They Went Up Over the Width

They went up over the width of the earth, and surrounded the camp of the saints, and the beloved city. Fire came down out of heaven from God and devoured them.

What does Revelation 20:9 mean?

The scattered lower forces spread across the whole field of the body and surround the settled, holy centers within a person, laying siege to the awakened self. The camp of the saints and the beloved city are the gathered pure energies and the inner seat of peace, the consecrated ground that the base impulses ring on every side.

Esoteric

The scattered lower forces spread across the whole field of the body and surround the settled, holy centers within a person, laying siege to the awakened self. The camp of the saints and the beloved city are the gathered pure energies and the inner seat of peace, the consecrated ground that the base impulses ring on every side. Fire from heaven is the descending spiritual power, the higher voltage that comes down through the crown and consumes what rose against the light.

The siege collapsing under fire is the moment the incoming energy of the higher self burns through the encircling lower drives, so the inner city stands while what massed against it is undone.

City: the inner seat of peace and the awakened self within a person, the beloved center of consciousness Fire: the descending spiritual power from above, the higher current coming down through the crown to consume the lower forces Heaven: the elevated region of mind at the top of a person, the high ground from which spirit pours down

Live Revelation 20:9 today

  1. On a day when everything crowds in, find the one place in you that is not panicking and stand there for a minute. The noise can be at full volume while that spot stays quiet.
  2. When someone comes at you from every angle, complaints, demands, old grievances, keep answering from the calm part rather than matching their pitch. You are not holding the line by pushing back harder.
  3. In the hour when you are most surrounded, stop trying to win and ask for help, out loud or silently. What steadies you in that moment is not going to come from more effort.

When you are surrounded on every side, where is the part of you that is still at peace?

The same truth in other traditions

Hinduism, Bhagavad Gita 2

As a tortoise draws in its limbs, the steady one withdraws the senses from what crowds them. The center holds because it is not where the fighting is.

Sufism · Rumi

He writes that when the house is emptied of everything you were hoarding, the treasure arrives. What saves you comes in, it is not produced by you.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

There is an inner citadel no one can take from you. The siege can be total and the center still holds.
