Revelation 21:11 · World English Bible
having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, as if it were a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
A city descends, and what makes it radiant is not gold or grandeur but a clarity, a light like a flawless stone that you can see straight through. This is the image of consciousness with nothing in the way, no cloud of thought, no film of the anxious self distorting what shines.

EGO & BEING
A city descends, and what makes it radiant is not gold or grandeur but a clarity, a light like a flawless stone that you can see straight through. This is the image of consciousness with nothing in the way, no cloud of thought, no film of the anxious self distorting what shines.
The glory is not added from outside. It is what is always present when the mind grows transparent and stops obstructing the light that you already are. Clear as crystal means nothing is hidden and nothing is grasped. When your inner state becomes that still and open, the same radiance that this vision describes is simply how presence looks when it is no longer covered over.

ESOTERIC
The city descending is the awakened self, and its glory is the light of consciousness shining through a body made transparent. Jasper, clear as crystal, is the state where nothing in a person clouds the light anymore. The stone is precious because the flesh that once darkened the mind has been ground down until spirit passes through it undimmed, the way sunlight passes through clear glass without shadow.
The light does not come from outside. It is the mind itself, cleared of its own density, seeing without distortion. When the inner eye is single, the whole body fills with light, and the person becomes the jewel through which awareness pours.
The holy city: the fully awakened self, mind and body ordered as one dwelling place Jasper stone clear as crystal: the state of consciousness where flesh no longer clouds the light, the body made transparent to spirit Light: the awareness within a person, shining unobstructed once the density of the flesh is refined away

SUFISM
Tajallī: God showing himself Ibn Arabi's word for God stepping into view inside something made. Anything that shines this way works like a window, and the light behind it did not begin at the glass. Someone who grasps that stops praising the object and starts looking through it. The brightness stays as striking as before, and the person's attention travels past it to the source.
Al-Nūr: The Light Al-Ghazali taught that only God is light in the full sense, and everything else borrows. A stone left alone is dark, and a lamp is cold metal until it is lit. People work the same way: warmth, patience, and clear thinking arrive from somewhere and pass through. Seeing your better qualities as borrowed takes the strain out of holding them up.
God is beautiful and he loves beauty: beauty carries a trace of its maker A saying of the Prophet that Sufis come back to constantly. Being stopped in your tracks by something lovely can feel frivolous, as if serious devotion happens elsewhere. The tradition reads that pull as reliable news, since beauty is often where a person first senses that something worth loving exists. The delight is where the interest in God usually starts.
Mir'āt al-qalb: the mirror of the heart The old picture of the heart as polished metal, bright only when kept clean. Nobody makes a mirror shine by painting light onto it, since the job is scrubbing off rust. Grudges, showing off, and small dishonesties are the rust, and each leaves its smear. Most of the work is removal, and the brightness that follows came from outside the person.
Faqr: poverty before God Poverty here means owning nothing of your own, gifts included. The Quran tells people flatly that they are the poor ones and God is the rich. That sounds like a demotion until you count the effort spent defending a reputation you believe you built. Someone who has stopped claiming ownership can carry a great deal without buckling.
Baqā': remaining in God Junayd's word for what keeps standing once a person is no longer the center. Anything built on self-promotion needs propping up daily, and it drops the moment the propping stops. A life resting on something outside itself keeps going without that maintenance. The steadiness comes from what it rests on, not from the person's own effort.
Ego v. Being lens
What in you gets stirred up most often, and who is doing the stirring?
The mind is a mirror. It shows everything perfectly as soon as you stop wiping your own worry across the glass.
Muddy water clears when nobody stirs it. Stillness is not something you add. It is what is there when you let the churning settle.
When the ripples of thought settle, what you are shows through undistorted. The clarity was never missing, only disturbed.
