Revelation 22:4 · World English Bible
They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
The face seen is the true countenance of the inner self, no longer hidden behind the mask of the ego, beheld when consciousness turns inward and looks upon its own source. The forehead is the seat of the single eye, the pineal center between the brows where perception is sealed.

ESOTERIC
The face seen is the true countenance of the inner self, no longer hidden behind the mask of the ego, beheld when consciousness turns inward and looks upon its own source. The forehead is the seat of the single eye, the pineal center between the brows where perception is sealed. To carry the name written there is to have the divine nature stamped upon the organ of higher sight, so that thought itself bears the mark of the awakened mind rather than the mark of the beast of the senses.
The whole promise gathers in the brow: the light that was sought outside is found imprinted on the very place a person thinks and sees from.
Face: the true countenance of the inner self, revealed when the mask of the ego is dropped and consciousness meets its own source Forehead: the seat of the single eye between the brows, the pineal center of higher perception where the divine nature is sealed Name: the essential nature and vibration of the self, engraved on the organ of sight so that thought bears its stamp

SUFISM
A heart that spends its days hungry to be seen has turned the mirror the wrong way, polishing it for its own reflection instead of for the light it was made to hold. That craving for a name on other lips is the film that keeps the true Face from ever coming clear.
The cure is to want one gaze more than the crowd's, and to clean the glass in secret for that alone. Then the promise arrives whole. To see His face and to carry His name on the brow are one event, the mirror at last showing the Real and taking His mark.
Esoteric lens
Who am I when nobody is watching me be anybody?
The teaching asks you to find the face you had before your parents were born. It is not a riddle about history but a pointer to what you are underneath every role you have learned to wear.
The beloved you have been searching the world for turns out to be looking out from behind your own eyes. The search ends where the searcher was standing all along.
Ask persistently who it is that is thinking, and the question dissolves the mask rather than answering it. What remains when the asking stops is your own nature, plain and unhidden.
