Revelation 4:5 Meaning Out of the Throne Proceed Lightnings

Out of the throne proceed lightnings, sounds, and thunders. There were seven lamps of fire burning before his throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

What does Revelation 4:5 mean?

The number 7 symbolizes the full set of spiritual centers, and the 7 lamps of fire are those centers alight, the higher energies of the body burning in their complete order before the seat of the highest self. The throne is that seat of pure awareness at the crown, the ruling center of a person from which all inner power issues.

The lightnings and thunderings breaking out of it are the sudden flashes of illumination and the deep vibration of higher sound that pour through a consciousness when the centers are fully awake and the seat is occupied.

The fire of the lamps is the living spiritual energy that rises through the body's centers and burns steadily once they are opened. The plain sense is that when the higher self takes its seat within, the whole system of the body's spiritual centers lights up and its energies flash into full life.

Throne: the seat of pure awareness at the crown, the ruling center of a person from which all inner power issues 7 lamps of fire: the number 7 as the full set of spiritual centers, the higher energies of the body alight in their complete order 7 Spirits of God: the sevenfold spiritual force at work through the awakened centers

Live Revelation 4:5 today

  1. Find one minute today with no screen in front of you and feel how much energy is actually running through your body. Most of us never check.
  2. When you talk to someone today, be fully there instead of half there. They will feel the difference before you say anything interesting.
  3. When a deadline or a hard conversation sends a jolt of adrenaline through you, do not spend it on panic. Let it be fuel that makes you more awake, more present, more clear.

Where is your energy going today, and is anything actually lit by it?

The same truth in other traditions

Hinduism · Yoga tradition

When the inner fire rises through the centers, the texts describe it as lamps lighting in sequence, each one coming alive as the energy reaches it. The whole system is meant to burn, not one lamp alone.

Zen · Dogen

Dogen writes that practice and awakening are not two things. When you truly sit down in your own seat, the whole body-mind drops away and everything in you is suddenly awake at once.

Sufism · Al-Ghazali

Al-Ghazali compares the heart to a polished mirror and to a lamp lit from the divine light. When the dust is cleared, the illumination does not arrive from outside; it simply shows.
